Manitoba New Media attends the Game Developers Conference (GDC) every year to bring back industry info and contacts. This is our podcast feed that will include all of the interviews we've done.

The GDC is the world’s largest professionals-only game industry event. Presented every spring in San Francisco, it is the essential forum for learning, inspiration, and networking for the creators of computer, console, handheld, mobile, and online games.

Arcane Legions is a role-playing strategy game set in a rich fantasy world. The game is a unique blend of traditional RPG and RTS genres, where players can recruit, equip and train huge armies to fight in real time in epic 3D battles. The player chooses varied missions and quests from a story driven campaign, developing their fledgling army into an elite fighting force strong enough to defeat the evil threatening their world. The training, equipment and appearance of individual units can be customized by the player, allowing them to craft their own army. </itunes:summary>

Kevin Hnatiuk interviews Daniel Salinas from Stanford University at the Game Developer Conference 2007 to talk about their game project; Euclidian Crisis.

Euclidean Crisis is a multiplayer real-time strategy game played using a touchscreen stylus and voice commands. The game can also be played with a mouse.

Players control a diverse team of units on a two-dimensional battlefield, and must destroy their opponents’ energy cores while protecting their own. Players tell units where to go by drawing out paths, and give orders using special gestures and voice activated commands. The game is rendered in a retro aesthetic featuring simple shapes (hence the origin of the title) in a world with colorful, psychedelic visual effects synced to the music.

Euclidean Crisis was developed in ten weeks by Daniel Salinas, Travis Skare, John Shedletsky, and Douglas Wilson for their 2006 Senior Project. The game won top honors at the 2006 Stanford University Computer Science Department Senior Project Faire. It was awarded first prizes by Electronic Arts, VM Ware, Microsoft, Yahoo!, and the Electrical Engineering Department.
